The Story of Easter (Trophy Picture Books)

The Story of Easter (Trophy Picture Books) Review

This book explains clearly Christ's role in Easter, and how Easter traditons relate to him. This book is able to get this message across in a very easy-to-understand way. I read this book to my sunday school class and they enjoyed the book very much. We also had fun doing some of the activites the book included. I liked this book very much, and I would suggests this book to anyone who is trying to explain the meaning of Easter in a very fun and understandable way.

The Story of Easter (Trophy Picture Books) Overview

With an informative text and glorious illustrations, this book explains both how and why people all over the world celebrate Easter. It tells the biblical story of Jesus’ Resurrection and then describes how people honor this day and the origins of these traditions. Hands-on activities help draw children into the spirit of this joyous celebration of rebirth.

The Story of Easter (Trophy Picture Books) Specifications

Aileen Fisher's informative, well-organized text describes Jesus' crucifixion and resurrection, then moves on to explain the origins of other springtime rituals and their connection to the biblical traditions. Basic facts about the history of Easter, Passover, the Easter Bunny, Easter eggs, and other forms of religious and secular symbolism are lucidly conveyed, without going into excessive detail. The emphasis is on the symbolism of new life and new hope in the hearts of people, whether in Christian celebrations or in spring festivals. As Fisher says, "Not all Christian churches celebrate the Easter season in the same way. But the message of Easter is always the same. It is the joy and celebration of the belief that God's love is stronger than death." The author includes instructions on decorating Easter eggs, as well as a recipe for the traditional Easter-morning treat, hot cross buns. First published in 1968, this gorgeous new edition is illustrated by Stefano Vitale, who decorates each page as carefully and exquisitely as if it were a precious Easter egg. Lush yet muted earth tones and a folk-art slant to the paintings set this apart as a truly special Easter book. (Ages 6 to 10) --Emilie Coulter

Happy Easter, Mouse! (If You Give...)

Happy Easter, Mouse! (If You Give...) Review

Reviewed by Max Aures (age 3 ½) and Mom for Reader Views (04/10)

The mouse from "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie" is back in this newest holiday book "Happy Easter, Mouse!"

Max: "I like this mouse. We have other books with him in it. This is a good book for colors. For counting too! He had lots of different colors of eggs. I liked the blue ones the best. The best part was at the end when there was a big, huge pile of eggs and bunny ears sticking out of it. That is who hid the eggs!"

Parent's comments:

"Happy Easter, Mouse!" is a fun Easter board book that would be perfect for little ones learning their colors and how to count. Each page focuses on a different color; for example, "four orange eggs on the sofa." This would be a great book for young child to find in their Easter basket!

Max's Easter Surprise (Max and Ruby)

Max's Easter Surprise (Max and Ruby) Review

I bought this book for my 2 1/2 yr old son's Easter basket and am STILL reading it! He loves Max and Ruby, so it's no surprise that he loves this book. The story is about how Ruby and her friend color Easter eggs, and Max is to put them in a basket. However, instead of putting them in a basket, he makes a parade with them and his toys. Very cute and great illustrations by Rosemary Wells. I love the simplicity of Max & Ruby!

The Easter Egg

The Easter Egg Review

The story of little Hoppi trying to decide what type of egg to make is very sweet and full of good messages. Hoppi first thinks he will copy one of the types of eggs being made by the other bunnies but then decides that he needs to make an "egg that is right for me". As he thinks about what to do he realizes he doesn't have to win the contest and that he just wants "to make an egg I am proud of." Then he selflessly sits on the mother robin's dropped but unbroken egg so that she can sit on the two that remain in her nest. This book is filled with messages that I am happy to share with my preschooler. It does not contain any explicit references to anything religious surrounding Easter so if you want that you should look for another book. The illustrations are up to Jan Brett's amazing, detailed, beautiful standards.

The Easter Egg Feature

  • ISBN13: 9780399252389
  • Condition: NEW
  • Notes: Brand New from Publisher. No Remainder Mark.

The Easter Egg Overview

Jan Brett’s lovable bunny hero, Hoppi, and her remarkable Easter Rabbit will enchant readers as they pore over illustrations filled with dazzling eggs made by Flora Bunny, Aunt Sassyfrass and others.

If Hoppi can make the best Easter egg, he will get to help the Easter Rabbit deliver the eggs on Easter morning. But it is not so easy. Discouraged, he goes into the woods to think when a blue robin’s egg tumbles out of its nest. Hoppi keeps it safe and warm until the baby bird hatches, and when the Easter Rabbit arrives, he chooses the empty blue eggshell to reward Hoppi for his kindness.

Spring is everywhere in gorgeous illustrations framed with pussy willows, flowering vines and flowers. Side borders feature busy rabbits making their unusual eggs and, in a border above, the Robin’s family drama unfolds.

A gatefold surprise reveals the Easter Rabbit.

Where Are Baby's Easter Eggs?: A Lift-the-Flap Book

Where Are Baby's Easter Eggs?: A Lift-the-Flap Book Review

My daughter is 9 months old and just got this book from her Grandma in anticipation of Easter. She loves it, just like she loves all of the Karen Katz "Where Is/Are Baby's ____?" lift-the-flap books. She also loves the Karen Katz touch and feel books, but not as much as the lift-the-flaps. (Incidentally, she's not that into "Counting Kisses", which is neither touch/feel or lift-flap, but maybe she will be when she understands counting better.) We've been making it sort of a holiday tradition that she gets a Karen Katz book for each corresponding holiday (Xmas, Valentine's, Easter ...), and it's so much fun!

Where Are Baby's Easter Eggs?: A Lift-the-Flap Book Overview

Easter Bugs : A Springtime Pop-up by David A Carter

Easter Bugs : A Springtime Pop-up by David A Carter Review

My boys (now age 5 & 9) ADORE David A. Carter's pop-up books in his "Bug" series and have for years!! We have a rather large collection of them. We haven't found one yet that they didn't enjoy. The artwork is engaging, the pop-up's are creative & the writing is silly & funny!

I probably wouldn't recommend the books for under the age of 3 to read/play with (unless the caregiver is handling the book) as some of the tabs & artwork can be torn if handles roughly. Once the kids have the hang of "touch nicely", these books are great for fun for all!!

Highly recommend!!

Easter Bugs : A Springtime Pop-up by David A Carter Overview

All kinds of bugs are hiding behind colorful Easter eggs, just waiting for you to find them!
(And there are lots more fun surprises, too!)

Easter Bugs : A Springtime Pop-up by David A Carter Specifications

David A. Carter, paper engineer extraordinaire, is back with more pop-up bugs! Fans of The 12 Bugs of Christmas, Alpha Bugs, Love Bugs, and the other silly pop-ups in Carter's insect series, will be delighted at the new surprises in store with Easter Bugs. "Spring has sprung and left winter behind. How many Easter Bugs can you find?" Who's in the dip-dyed rainbow egg? How about the egg with baby blue dots? The jeweled egg? The purple peekaboo egg? Inside each brightly decorated egg waits a new bug, unlike any you'll ever see in nature (unless genetic engineering goes awry). There's the fluffy yellow Chick-Chick Bug, with touchable fleecy soft fur. And some shiny silver Raindrop Bugs. There's even a bucktoothed Bunny Bug with turquoise spots. For a spectacular finale, Carter constructs a basket full of every insect depicted. Kids will have a grand old time guessing what kind of creepy-crawly critter lies behind each egg. Here's one delicious Easter treat that won't cause cavities! (Ages 3 to 6) --Emilie Coulter

Easter Egg Hunt (Razzle Dazzle Books)

Easter Egg Hunt (Razzle Dazzle Books) Review

My six-month old loves this book. We have several of Chuck Murphy's Razzle Dazzle books, and so far this one seems to be her favorite. The book features children searching for Easter eggs in various locations. Each page has a simple phrase that describes the picture, such as "UNDER the flowerpot" or "IN the grass", and each Easter egg is a colorful, foil-like insert on the page. It's a great book for introducing reading to a child... Colorful, lots to talk about with the child, and just the right number of pages to maintain attention. And it's a nice, chunky board book too, so I can give it to my daughter to play with independently without having her tear it.
